My Personal Counseling Philosophy
I believe that all students are decision makers of their personal goals and have the power to determine what they ultimately want to achieve in life. The role of professional school counselors is to help students discover their goals and determine their own solutions. School counselors are responsible for creating a positive, caring, and supportive environment that promotes student growth and empowerment. By following the American School Counselor Association’s (ASCA) National Model, a comprehensive school counseling program should use data, evidence-based practices, and tiered level of supports to address the academic, social-emotional, and postsecondary needs of all students. As a school counselor, I will be a leader and advocate for all students, collaborate with stakeholders within the school and the community, and work towards eliminating systemic barriers. Furthermore, I will follow ethical standards set by ASCA and regularly attend professional development opportunities to improve my school counseling program and my school counseling competencies. |
